Psalm 71:9,20
THIS IS MY DAD’S BIRTHDAY THE FIRST WE WILL NOT BE TOGETHER, SINCE HE WENT HOME TO BE WITH THE LORD. I WRITE THIS IN HONOR OF HIM.
“Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails…You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, Shall revive me again.”
Life can be hard in this fallen world, especially in old age, my Dad lived till he was ninety-two. He always held on to the Lord, and though he went through lots of hard things, he never felt that the Lord had cast him off. The Word of God sustained him, he held tightly to those “great and precious promises”.
His strength failed more that once, falling three times, fracturing his pelvic bone, fracturing his shoulder, and then bruising his pelvic bone. All three led to hospitalization and then rehab, he always connected with other men in rehab, loving them and letting them know he was praying for them. There was always encouragement and humor at his table. He did not like this one rehab because the served chicken all the time, and he did not like chicken. He would say they had chicken coops in the back. The next time he was in the ER at the VA, when they asked him if was allergic to anything, and he said chicken. The Lord never forsook my Dad and he knew it!
He was revived again and again, and then finally when the diagnoses was a brain tumor, the Lord would be merciful. Pops never lost it, I would make him pasta everyday, I told him he was not really Irish, he loved pasta, and all Italian food. The final time the Lord revived him was when it was time to go home, May 6, 2019. And the Lord was faithful once again as he stepped into Eternity, and saw the Lord, no more tears, no more suffering, only Life forevermore! “Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things”
